If you are an EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen planning to live in Cyprus for more than 3 months, you are required to register. This is the Yellow Slip — the simplest and most accessible residency registration in Cyprus. Non-EU family members register separately using the MEU2 form.
UK nationals: Following Brexit, UK citizens are no longer treated as EU nationals for new registrations. Those who held a valid MEU1, MEU2, or MEU3 before 31 December 2020 retain their rights under the Withdrawal Agreement. UK nationals arriving after this date should explore the Pink Slip or other residency pathways.
Work for any Cyprus employer, operate a business, or be self-employed — no separate work permit required.
MEU1 holders have automatic access to GESY — covering GPs, specialists, hospitals — regardless of employment status.
Registration certificate accepted by banks as proof of residency.
Children have access to public and private schools. EU citizens generally access public universities on the same fee basis as Cypriot nationals.
EU citizens may purchase and own property on the same terms as Cypriot nationals.
After 5 years of continuous legal residence, apply for MEU3 which does not expire.
Registration is required for any EU, EEA, or Swiss citizen who intends to remain in Cyprus for more than 3 months. Failure to register within 4 months of arrival may result in administrative penalties and can cause difficulties with banks, employers, and public services.
